Pasadena-born bassist and composer Michael Haggins is a prominent smooth jazz artist who frequently performs at Downtown Disney Live and in the Pasadena area.He is known for his distinctive blend of smooth jazz and funk.Michael’s hit song “Daybreak”,gained popularity through the NBC Grammy award-winning sitcom Community,which introduced his music to a new generation of fans.The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon has broadcast Michael’s song Daybreak as walk-on music for several guest celebrities including Donald Glover,Ken Jeong,Joel McHale,and actress Rachel Brosnahan who plays the iconic Lois Lane in the 2025 movie Superman.The Tonight Show Band The “Roots” can be heard performing live covers of Michael’s song Daybreak on various episodes.
Michael has since developed his own unique sound & style. The Los Angeles Times has referred to his sound as being “a special brand of smooth funk”. To date Michael has written and produced three albums (Daybreak, Traffic, and Dare to Dream) and a new 2022 single titled "Gift to The World" - all original music. Michael's music has been most added on Billboard charts under the smooth jazz category and also a Top Ten CD pick in Smooth Jazz News Magazine.
